Metagenomic analysis and whole-genome sequencing (WGS) are advanced molecular techniques used to identify and characterize the diverse microbial community in an infected root canal. These methods overcome the limitations of traditional culturing by revealing a more complete picture of the bacterial, fungal, and viral populations, along with their functional capabilities.
