Smart materials in conservative dentistry and endodontics are designed to respond to various stimuli, such as temperature, pH, stress, and magnetic fields, to perform specific functions like adapting their shape, releasing beneficial ions, or changing color. Examples include shape-memory alloys for orthodontics and endodontic instruments, pH-sensitive composites that can promote remineralization, ion-releasing materials, and smart pulp capping agents that promote healing.
