This topic introduces a novel notion of orthogonality in real normed spaces defined through the functional 𝜌 ∗ ρ ∗ , which is derived from the directional derivatives of the norm. The proposed 𝜌 ∗ ρ ∗ -orthogonality generalizes and unifies several classical orthogonality concepts (such as Birkhoff–James orthogonality), and its properties are investigated in relation to smoothness, strict convexity, and geometric structure of normed spaces. The study highlights how 𝜌 ∗ ρ ∗ -orthogonality provides finer geometric insight and new characterizations of inner product spaces.
