Paper chromatography (PC) is a simple analytical technique used to separate and identify components of a mixture based on their different affinities toward a stationary phase and a mobile phase. In this method, special chromatography paper acts as the stationary phase, while a suitable solvent moves through the paper by capillary action. Components migrate at different rates according to their solubility and interaction with the paper. After development, separated compounds appear as distinct spots and can be identified using their Rf values. Paper chromatography is widely used for analyzing amino acids, pigments, dyes, and other small compounds.
