Pavement Management System Using Markov Deterioration Model

A continuous time Markov deterioration model will be produced which uses a pavement deterioration and repair rates, and examines the effects of regular inspections and maintenance on the pavement surface. The model is first simplified and solved into MATLAB to calculate the probabilities of the pavement being in five pre-determined conditions with no inspection or maintenance. It is then solved with varying inspection intervals and alternative times to perform maintenance. In addition, the probabilities of the pavement being repaired from revealed and unrevealed states will also be calculated. A conclusion will be made on the usage of a Markov model for pavement modelling.
